VLOG: Bloggers United Australia ~ Adelaide Event

Current ‘Miracle’ Products

For those of you who know me in real life or have been following my blog for a little while you will know about the joys of my skin and the ups and downs it goes through, I’m sure I’m not alone with this, we all have our struggles with skincare. Recently there have been a few products that have been my skins new best friends, so I really wanted to share them with you!

First up, we have good old tea tree oil, this one as shown below, is by Thursday Plantation and is readily available, I got mine from a local supermarket for under AU$10. I apply it to pimples both risen and under the skin and I’ve noticed over night results. I recently spent some spare time picking at my face (don’t judge…I thought there was something under there that needed to come out, but I was wrong) and I was left with a unpleasant open wound, I swear to myself everytime that I’m not going to pick at my face ever again but for some reason I haven’t been able to stick to this. Anyway, I applied a tiny bit of tea tree oil on it before going to bed and when I woke up it hadn’t taken away the wound completely but it definitely closed the wound a little, and made it less visible. Highly recommend keeping a bottle like this in the house at all times.

Next up, we have this essence lotion by Clinique. I have a few different products on rotation that I put on my skin before bed, but I’ve noticed that when I use this one, I wake up with my skin feeling so smooth and it also helps those self inflicted open wounds I mentioned earlier. I purchased this particular one while on holiday in Singapore and I noticed that on the back it says that it’s formulated for Asian skin, so I’m interested to know how it works for those who don’t have Asian skin. Comment below if you’ve tried the non-Asian version!

And last but not least we have; Scytera. So this product was actually sent to me to review, and when they contacted me they mentioned that they have a product for me to try that helps with the treatment of psoriasis, they didn’t know this but coincidentally enough I actually unfortunately do suffer from this condition on my scalp. So I jumped at the offer to try it, I’ve tried so many shampoos, oils etc and nothing has helped.

Firstly, I loved the message behind the product, on the information sheet, they mentioned the connection between such skin conditions and mental health issuse such as depression. Having psoriasis myself, I know the struggle, for me because it’s on my scalp I find that I can hide it by wearing my hair down. But for those people who have it on open areas, I can only imagine how frustrating and damaging it can be. So, Scytera consists of 2% coal tar which is known to be a dermatological treatment in small doses. The product is easy to use with its pump design and the foam that comes out is a pale yellow colour and really easy to apply. I spray a small amount onto my fingers and then massage it into my scalp, it has a slight medicinal scent but nothing major that I would be embarrassed to go out of the house. Just knowing how annoying it is to live with, it’s so nice to have a product that actually works! Thank you Scytera! For those of you interested in trying it out, it looks like it’s available at National Pharmacies.

Tonic Skincare Review

A while ago I was sent a range of skincare products to try out, if you’ve read some of my previous beauty posts, you’ll know how I have struggled with my skin and the up’s and down’s (mostly downs) I’ve gone through with trying to make it better. When I was asked if I would like to try these products I said I would be happy to try them out because I am open to trying anything (well mostly anything).

I’ve been using these products for a couple of months now and I think it’s fair to say that I have been enjoying them and the results they have given my skin. So the products I am talking about are called Tonic, the range includes facial cleansers, exfoliants, moisturisers, night creams, eye creams, serums and more. With a name like Tonic, they are bound to be filled with some ‘good for you’ ingredients right? Yes! They sure are, some of their ingredients include avocado oil, bentonite, macadamia nut oil, witch hazel extract, rosehip oil, lactic acid, ribose and more. Also, all of their ingredients are certified organic and all products are made in Australia.

Since I’ve been using these products I have noticed a significant decrease in the amount of breakouts I get, they have honestly reduced to next to nothing, which is so amazing to me, I actually can’t believe it! In terms of using them on a daily basis, they are easy to use and apply, I use the facial cleanser and moisturiser every day and the exfoliant every couple days, I find the exfoliator quite rough so I mix a little in with the cleanser and then it feels comfortable on my skin. The only downfall for me is that the pump on my moisturiser feel apart, but it’s still useable and if the only problems with a product is the packaging, then it’s still a winner.

I highly recommend that you check out some products from Tonic, if you want to try them out first before buying, Essential Beauty offer facials where they use the Tonic products, so it’s a great opportunity to try the products plus have a nice pamper sesh!

Inside the Media Preview of Adelaide’s Newest Lush Store

I recently got to live the Lush life for one evening at the relaunch of the new Lush store in Rundle Mall…which I must mention is the biggest Lush store in Australia!

So, what do you ask is ‘the Lush life’? Well just imagine walking into a world filled with delicious scents, luxurious balms, scrubs, bars and bombs, smoothie making push-bikes and Lushy cocktails. Yes this was all apart of the Lush world at the media preview and grand opening.
I spent sometime walking around the store taking in the sights, smells, and textures and it made me think about how we experience the moment that we are in at any one time. Within my work as a counsellor I do a lot around mindfulness and being aware of thoughts, actions and your surroundings. Creating this sense of awareness can start from having a strong awareness of your body and the sensations we feel according to the different emotions we feel.
So how does Lush fit in with this concept,  well have you ever tried to be mindful? It’s not that easy to stay completely focused in any given moment but having something to motivate us to practice could help, so why not pick up a Lush massage bar or bath bomb and experience your moment for what it is while using this product. How much easier would it be to pay attention to your moment if you have the smells and lushness of any Lush product flooding through your mind….I don’t know about you but I feel relaxed just thinking about it!
Here are some pics and video of the Lush life…

Lush Blogger Event at Westfield Marion

It’s no secret that Lush is a favourite amongst many. It’s the perfect place to go when it’s time to pamper yourself because there are so many luxurious treats which are also affordable.

Until a couple of weeks ago, we only had one Adelaide store in Rundle Mall, but I’m so excited to announce that we now have another; located at Westfield Marion. I recently attended a blogger event to check out the store and all the beautiful things inside, they did not disappoint!

We were treated to hand massages using Lush massage bars, product making demonstrations (we were shown the making of the Lush cleanser ‘Angels on bare skin’ and much more.

I love that Lush are completely ethical, all ingredients are sourced ethically, they make sure that no animal testing occurs at any time in the process of making a product and all products are made fresh in Australia. Not only are the products amazing but the staff in store are all very helpful and knowledgeable about the products, so you can walk in there, tell them a bit about what you’re looking for and they will make sure that you leave with the right products for you.

What more could you ask for!

At the event I was treated to a hand massage using one of the very cool massage bars. They come in all different shapes and scents. They would make such a cute gift as well. I was also looking for a face mask so I had two tried on the backs of my hands and after hearing all about them and getting everyone to feel the difference the two had on my hands, I went with ‘Love Lettuce’, which I’m so happy with, and for only $13.95, it’s so affordable for a product that actually works.

Here are some photos from the event, let me know what you end up choosing after your next visit to Lush.

Current Beauty Favourites

I wouldn’t call myself a beauty expert at all, but I do have real issues with my skin and what products work for me, so when I find a product that I think works for me, I want to share it with you all because it could work for you as well!

1. Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum

As you can see this is a Chanel product, and you’re probably thinking…oh gosh it’s probably really expensive…well I’m sad to say that it is around AU$140. But the reason why I got it was, the Chanel counters in Myer and David Jones offer Chanel facials where you pay $70 which is fully redeemable on products. So that is what I did, I booked myself in for a facial and then purchased this product. The facial is also really great, they take you to a fancy room that is decked out in chanel towels and products, they use all chanel products and not only do you get a facial but you also get a hand massage, which I loved!

So this product is supposed to bring back moisture into dehydrated skin, which inturn reduces your pore size and makes your skin look plump and healthy. I have noticed a big change in my skin after using this product, I apparently had really dehydrated skin, so I think this really has brought back the moisture into my skin because my pore size has reduced and my skin actually feels healthy. I’ve also been told that my skin looks so much better than what it was by family.

The only negative of this product is that it has to be used morning and night and because it is so expensive I do feel abit stingy with it. So what I did is, I started of using it morning and night, and after using it for a few weeks, I now using it once daily.

2. Face of Australia Eye Liner (Black)

My daily make-up routine only consists of black eyeliner on my waterline, I’m not one to wear a full face of make-up unless there’s an occasion. So findng a good eyeliner is really important to me. I bought this eyeliner to try as it was really inexpensive. I was so pleased by it, it is soft, easy to apply, very dark and pigmented. It is a really great day eyeliner option.

It does last till the evening but I do notice slight smudging as it gets towards the end of the day.

3. Seven Wonders Moroccan Argan Oil Dry Shampoo

This dry shampoo was sent to me to try out, and once I did, I realised that it is the first dry shampoo I have used that is actually great for dark hair. It doesn’t leave me looking like I have white powder all over my head…..which is amazing! It is also very light on the hair, so it feels fine during the day and I’m not worries about it drying and flaking away throughout the day.

I’ve actually run out so I will definitely be purchasing a new one!

4. Benefit Hoola Bronzer

Now it’s no surprise that this product is a favourite amongst many, but I had no idea how good it actually is. Benefit kindly sent it to me to try out and I’m so glad that they did because now I know myself that it actually works to define the features of your face. I also love that the colour suits my skin tone and that it actually shows on my skin. Also it can be subtle or built up to really showcase the features.

PS. How cute is the little brush it comes with?!

5. Australia Velourlips Matte Lip Cream (Doo-Bai)

I love the look of matte lips but I’m not a fan of the dry feel, especially having naturally dry lips allready, I need all the help I can get with lip products to make my lips look nice and moist. I really anjoy everything about this lip cream; the colour, consistency and even smell are really nice. And what I love most about this product, is the price, they are only AU$10!

Below you will see a photo of myself wearing this product at a recent event.

A Night of Pampering at Fresh Hair & Body

I was recently invited to Fresh Hair & Body on The  Parade for a fabulous night of pampering. They were celebrating the launch of their fourth Adelaide salon, based in St Clair.

Fresh Hair & Body is owned by Leah Brunoli, who I had the pleasure of meeting on the evening, she is a true inspiration, starting her own business at the very young age of 19 years old, she has created a successful brand, where not only she gets to do what she loves, but she also provides other young women finding their way in the hair and beauty industry, the opportunity to live out their passion.

The four salons are located in Mawson Lakes, Norwood, North Adelaide and now St Clair. With so many services on offer, including cuts, colours, brow-dries, waxing, makeup and nails, all you need to do is book yourself in and let the team do the rest.  On the night of pampering that’s exactly what I did, we were treated to hair, makeup and nails. You’ll see below the amazing job they did. I loved how one of the girls did my hair, not only did it turn out beautifully, but she did it so quickly and she didn’t spray it with so much hair spray, so I didn’t leave with stiff, crunchy hair!

The girls were so lovely, I definitely recommend going in for your next pamper session, also if you’re looking for wedding or special occasion hair and makeup, why not try them!

Lush Liquid Lipstick: Marsala

‘Marsala’ is the 2015 Pantone colour of the year.

This beautiful rich, wine colour with a purple tinge is the perfect colour in my opinion and Lush have made it even better by creating a marsala coloured liquid lipstick.

Lush sent me this little bottle of perfection to try out, as you will see below, it has a small applicator which allows you to fill in the lips without getting it all over the place. Also even though it is called a liquid lipstick, it’s not ‘annoyingly liquidy’ (my made up words!) so it doesn’t get everywhere. The texture feels really nice on the lips and it is so easy to apply. It is amazingly moisturising and I am not one to love the feeling of lipstick on my lips but I had no problem keeping this on my lips for quite a while. I found it long lasting, I think I had it on for about 6 hours and it would have lasted even longer but I had to take it off before having a shower. It also lasted through me eating waffles which really surprised me, no re-applying necessary!

As for the actual colour I can’t tell you how much I love it and trying this liquid lipstick from Lush has inspired me to try out some other colours in this range, let me know if you have tried any other colours, I would love to hear your opinions!

Before Bed Products

IMG_4982

My nightime skincare routine in the past involved washing my face with either a cleanser or a scrub, I had never thought about nor tried using extra products such as oils or serums. During my school years I suffered heavily with acne, my skin was really bad, and I couldn’t help but break the pimples and squeeze my skin until it went numb (literally). Everyone would always tell me “don’t break your pimples, you’ll get scars”, but I just didn’t listen, and now I’m dealing with the consequences! For a long time I thought that the scars would go away in time, and I would just have to be patient and let them fade away but as of recent (from the beginning of this year) I decided to start using one extra product before bed to see if my skin would become smoother and the scars would go away. I must mention that each of these products were either sent to me to try out, in a gift bag or gifted from a friend, so I have been lucky to be able to try these out without having to break the bank, however they have got me hooked so I would definitely re-purchase some of them.

Starting with the oils, Kosmea’s organic rose hip oil and Body Shop’s coconut oil. The first before bed product I tried was the rose hip oil, I was so impressed by it at the beginning, when applying it, it just absorbs into the skin instantly and in the morning my skin felt so much softer. I found myself lathering it on before bed every night, however after a while, when I was getting near to the end of the bottle, I was noticing that it wasn’t as effective as it was when I first started using it. I’m not sure if this was because my skin was getting used to it so the effect wasn’t as great or maybe I was just used to seeing the improvement and was unable to notice anything beyond. I then started using Body Shop’s coconut oil. Again after applying the coconut oil I found that my skin felt softer, however this oil absorbs into the skin a lot slower than the rose hip oil, so I found that if there’s any pet fur on my bed/pillow it would get stuck to my face. After a while it is fine though, it absorbs and in the morning the skin feels softer. I found that these oils are good for making the skin feel soft, but they didn’t really help with removing scars or dark spots. Out of the two, I would choose the rose hip oil to re-purchase.

The cucumber and guava firming eye balm  from the Jojoba company is meant to reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness around the eyes. After applying this balm under my eyes I found that I couldn’t really see any difference, however I also applied this to my forehead where I have have fine frown lines, and I actually noticed a difference, nothing too drastic, but I do feel like there was a slight reduction in the fine lines.

The Clinique dark spot corrector is a little sample a friend gave me (Thanks Ava!). I didn’t start using this one till very recently but I’ve found it to be really good, now this is good for reducing dark spots and acne scarring! It has a very light consistency, glides on the easily and absorbs pretty much instantly. If I keep using it, hopefully my scars will disappear.

Last but not least the serums, Jurlique’s Nutri-define Superior Retexturising Serum and Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair. These products I have found to be helpful in making the skin feel and look smoother. Again because I used the break my pimples and squeeze my skin, the texture of my skin became quite rough and uneven. I have found that the morning after applying either one of these products, my skin seems so much more smoother. Out of the two I can’t choose which one I would re-purchase just because they both have a very similar effect, if you are looking to buy one I would say just go for the one you find more reasonable in price.

Just on a side-note, I have found that changing the routine helps, because as I mentioned earlier, when I was just using the rose-hip oil, after a while I didn’t really notice a difference, so use one product for a couple of days and then use a different one, and so on.

What’s in my Makeup Bag?

So these are all the beauty products I carry around with me in my handbag. For those of you who know me well, you would know that I do not wear makeup everyday, I only wear makeup if I am going somewhere special. You’re probable thinking, “then why do you carry around makeup?!” Well I often have events to go to in the evening, so if I’m at work or out of the house during day, I keep my makeup with me so I can put it on after. I also have items which are not necessarily makeup but come in handy, such as hair ties.

As you can see in the photo my makeup bag is a small black Revlon pouch, which I received as part of a birthday present. The size is great for me because I don’t have a very big handbag so it fits in really well, and it fits all my stuff which is the main thing.

The makeup items in my pouch include a sample size of Benefit’s porfessional (which everyone knows about and loves), a mini Hello Flawless foundation from Benefit in hazelnut (I love this foundation, you only need the tiniest amount and it gives amazing coverage), another Benefit product; Gimme Brow (another cult favourite), a Rimmel black eyeliner (eyeliner is the only product I where on a daily basis, so this is a must have for me), the Australis neons and neutrals palette (I mentioned this one in a favourites post, it is the most perfect travel palette), a Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in grapefruit (this is great to keep in your handbag because not only is it moisturising but it also has a little bit of colouring in it) and the final makeup item is a Rimmel lip balm from the Rita Ora collection (I love how easy these are to apply!).

The ‘other’ items I have in my makeup pouch include cleansing wipes by Murine (these are special wipe for the eyes, I always get itchy eyes, especially around hay fever time, so these are perfect to have with me at all times), a Revlon role-on perfume called Splendid (this also came with the makeup pouch, it’s a great size to carry around, and because it’s role-on there’s no spillage), the Kosmea hydrating Rose Mist (because I tend to do my makeup at the end of the day, I like to spray this on my face before, it makes my skin feel so much cleaner), two hair ties and a clip (there’s always a day when I will need a hair tie and/or a clip!) and finally two makeup brushes in two different sizes (one for the face and one for the eyes).

So that’s everything I carry around with me, let me know if you have any of the same things, or if you have any suggestions of things I should add to my makeup bag.
