Coconut Culture: Cold Pressed Coconut Oil

Now it’s no surprise that coconut oil is known to be good for the skin, but what I do feel is worth sharing is what brands may be better. I can’t say that I’ve tried many but I have tried 2 different forms; liquid and cold pressed. I’ve mentioned in an earlier post about the liquid coconut oil I was using from The Body Shop, and how I really like the way it left my skin feeling, but I have to say I prefer using the cold pressed form now.

The lovely people at Coconut Culture recently sent me a jar of Virgin Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil to try out, I have been using it for a little while now and I have been loving the way my skin has been feeling the morning after. I keep the jar at my bedside and apply a small amount of the oil to my face before going to bed. I find that on cooler nights the oil is quite firm and I have to warm it up in my fingers to make it easier to apply, but if it’s been warmed up from the heater being on (all the time these days!) the consistency is perfect to apply. I really don’t like the feeling of oily skin but if you use a small amount it seeps into the skin in no time, which is a huge plus. What I also like about the cold pressed oil over the liquid is that there is no wastage through accidental spilling!

I don’t use this every night, as I’ve noticed with other products that if I use it all the time it stops working. After using this coconut oil, my skin feels so soft and so much more even. I think my skin also slightly glows in a more health way….if that makes any sense, it does in my head. The last thing I love about this coconut oil is that it is ethically produced in Sri Lanka. For those of you who don’t know, my background is Sri Lankan, so it’s always nice to see brands ethically supporting those in underprivileged countries!

Lush Liquid Lipstick: Marsala

‘Marsala’ is the 2015 Pantone colour of the year.

This beautiful rich, wine colour with a purple tinge is the perfect colour in my opinion and Lush have made it even better by creating a marsala coloured liquid lipstick.

Lush sent me this little bottle of perfection to try out, as you will see below, it has a small applicator which allows you to fill in the lips without getting it all over the place. Also even though it is called a liquid lipstick, it’s not ‘annoyingly liquidy’ (my made up words!) so it doesn’t get everywhere. The texture feels really nice on the lips and it is so easy to apply. It is amazingly moisturising and I am not one to love the feeling of lipstick on my lips but I had no problem keeping this on my lips for quite a while. I found it long lasting, I think I had it on for about 6 hours and it would have lasted even longer but I had to take it off before having a shower. It also lasted through me eating waffles which really surprised me, no re-applying necessary!

As for the actual colour I can’t tell you how much I love it and trying this liquid lipstick from Lush has inspired me to try out some other colours in this range, let me know if you have tried any other colours, I would love to hear your opinions!
