The Ultimate Gift: Materialistic or Experiential?

When it comes to giving a gift what comes to mind? We usually start thinking about what does the receiver like, what interests have they mentioned recently, what wouldn’t they want….there’s a massive list of questions that come to mind, and because we’re overwhelmed by our lack of answers to these questions we usually end up buying something useless or safe, like a pair of socks or a nice soap. I mean don’t get me wrong these gifts I’m sure would come in handy at some point, even if they get added to the re-gifting pile.

So then what would make an AMAZING gift? Well recently I’ve realised that a gift experience can have so much more meaning rather than just giving or receiving a material thing. I bet you’re thinking: but this will require even more thought and attention right? Well yes, but I’ve got some ideas for you…keep reading….

For my birthday this year my friends treated me to a trip to the Hashtag Meow Cat Cafe followed by dinner at Carmine and Co. This was such a sweet gift because it incoporated my love for cats and zeppole, plus I was able to share the experience with my friends.

Other gift experiences could include pampering vouchers, most people love a good massage, mani, pedi or facial. Taking someone special out for a picnic or to a restaurant. For those of you in Adelaide (or those visiting Adelaide) Mount Lofty House are offering some amazing experiences, see below:

·       Indulge in lunch or dinner at the award-winning, acclaimed Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant complete with a private, Sommelier-led tasting in the heritage cellars
·       A rose petal strewn cellar tour, candle-lit (proposal or anniversary dinner at HVR – with a view, see below)
·       Signature couples’ spa rituals in Stable Day Spa
·       Chocolates and Mount Lofty House sparkling on the balcony overlooking the Piccadilly Valley
·       All-inclusive picnic, set up in front of one of the roaring log fires inside Mount Lofty House
·       Gourmet picnic hampers designed to be shared in the botanic gardens directly below Mount Lofty House
·       Pick estate grown flowers throughout the sprawling gardens developed by South Australian icon Arthur Hardy to enjoy back in a private suite
·       Arrive at Mount Lofty House by helicopter, enjoy lunch or dinner at HVR and stay a night or two before departing in style with a vintage car
·       Taste the Adelaide Hills’ wine delights with a helicopter tour from the estate to prestigious wineries such as Shaw & Smith and Hahndorf Hill with a vintage car pickup to return to the mansion.

So now that you’re equipped with plenty of ideas for your next gifting occasion, I’m sure you’re going to be loved just that little bit more, if one of these experiences is being gifted (and it didn’t even have to take much thought on your end!). Happy gifting.

Paige Rowe: Winter/16 Runway

Paige Rowe recently launched her Winter 2016 collection and I was so excited to see what’s to come. Paige Rowe’s designs are quite unique and I love how they can suit so many different body shapes and sizes. The different cuts on the designs just make them look cool and edgy and can be dressed up or down.

The collection was shown in the tunnels of The Lion Hotel on Melbourne street. I had no idea these tunnels existed, but apparently they have been here for a long time, and you can hire the space out for parties and events…such a cool space!

Anyways back to the clothes, so for those of you who can’t remember my previous post on Paige Rowe, Paige designs two capsule collections per year; Summer and Winter. If you would like to try out some pieces, you make an appointment for a styling session, where you will get a one-on-one styling session, try out whatever you like and then place an order for the pieces you want and they will be delivered to you in May.

I really like the patterns and accessories in this seasons collection…so many great pieces!

Adelaide Fashion Festival 2015: What’s to come…

So it’s that time of year again….yes that’s right…the city is preparing for Adelaide Fashion Festival 2015.

Adelaide Fashion Festival is a celebration of Adelaide’s up-and-coming and established designers. Adelaide is bursting with creative talent and I personally love when creativity is celebrated. This year the festival will have a whole new look with most shows taking place on Hindmarsh Square, check out the program to see which shows you would like to attend.

Not only will there be runway shows but there are also a couple of speaking events; The Fashion Insiders Breakfast and the Connecting With China Workshop, this is such a great opportunity for those wanting to get into the fashion industry.

The festival will run over 4 days from the 22nd to the 25th of October. In anticipation of the festival, there have been a couple of events around town to get us all excited about what’s to come. Be Young PR and Little Lion Communications held a party at Pop Bar in the Adelaide Casino so we could hear from some of the designers about what they are looking forward to and One Rundle Trading Co. held a runway within their beautiful Dulwich store, to give us a taste of the fashions to come…here are some moments captured at these events….

The Loft wine and oyster Bar: Dinner Menu Launch

The Loft oyster and wine bar has launched their very first dinner menu, and I was lucky enough to be one of the first to try the new menu. Each dish was served with the matching cocktail and Mosquito Hill wine.

The dinner started of with a mixed plate, including a whole prawn, a baby squid and pork belly. This was my favourite dish of the night, it was so tasty! This dish was served with an  East 8 Hold Up Cocktail, Sherry Cobler and Mosquito Hill Pino Blanc. I really enjoyed the East 8 Hold Up Cocktail, I’m not a big drinker at all, but I found this cocktail very refreshing and not too strong.

Next we were served poached chicken with ginger broth and wild rice, along with the 20th Century Cocktail and Mosquito Hill Sauvignon Blanc. The chicken was so tender and flavoursome, it just melt in my mouth. The 20th Century Cocktail was also to my taste, it was nice and sweet.

We were then served duck breast with beetroot, brussel sprouts and calve nero. This dish was accompanied by the White Rabbit Cocktail and Mosquito Hill Pinot Noir. I’m not a big fan of eating duck but I did try it, it was really tender, and tasty, the serving size was quite filling and the vegetables went along with it really well.

The next dish was beef sirloin with mushrooms and chorizo. I don’t eat beef, so I offered my piece to another guest, who enjoyed it very much. I did eat the mushrooms and chorizo, which were really delicious. This dish was served with a Garfield and Thomas Cabernet Merlot. I’m not really sure how to comment on the wines because I’m not a wine drinker at all, allthough I did take a sip of each wine offered. From what I was hearing from other guests, each wine went really well with each dish

Finally we were served dessert; Filipino banana and cinnamon sugar pastry with chocolate sauce. The flavours in the dish were delicious, although the banana had the texture of plantain (green banana), which feels quite dry when eating it, so I would have preferred if the banana was moist. Along with dessert we were entertained with a DIY cocktail palette. We were given a glass of vodka and tonic water with a board of different flavoured purees, which we could mix and play around with to suit our own taste. The idea was so cool!

I had an amazing evening, The Loft truly knows how to entertain their guests. I seriously suggest checking out The Loft on your next dinner out, you won’t be dissapointed!

Thankyou to The Loft and Be young PR for a lovely evening.

The launch of Pirie & Co. Social Club

I was invited to attend the official launch of Adelaide’s newest Bar; Pirie & Co. Social Club

Upon arrival we were given some special Social Club money to spend at the bar

As we went down the stairs we could hear the live music playing and the chatter of guests enjoying the space. The atmosphere was just how I like it….warm, lounge like, inviting and styled perfectly.

We were treated to some delicious signature tapas……these chicken drumsticks were to die for….I could have eaten that whole plate if I had the chance!!! I’m definitely going back to eat those! :)

I had such a great night catching up with friends and enjoying the space…..definitely check out Pirie & Co its a great place for after work drinks!
